People across this country and around the world have been cheated out of the 21st-century Twin Towers most of us always wanted. Click above for a selection of comments that are a rebuke to the cynicism surrounding the current plans.

Well all I really have to say is that I want the towers back. It doesn’t matter if it was Osama or our own government who took them away, I want them back. We shall not stop until we have them back to stop our arrogant and corrupt government. We will have them back or REVOLT!!!!! Only like this may our economic crisis end. Only like this America will relive for it died on 9/11. Only this way will America regain its global dominance. FOR AMERICA!!!! FOR CHRISTENDOM!!!! URAAAAAA!!!! Long live America and Christianity forever.

TTA Note: While we generally remove off-topic comments, the way these remarks are worded promote neither conspiracy theories nor bigotry and should not offend anyone except “our arrogant and corrupt” government, which is just fine. If the media would give the American people the information they need, they would quickly see that keeping the Twin Towers down is the most glaring example of a government that doesn’t respect or serve its citizens — which is indeed revolting.

I made a research about Twin Towers and 9/11 and I presented it in my class. I’m Italian and that day, not only New York, but all world lost those buildings, a symbol, a symbol of the work of thousands people and a symbol of freedom.

I never visit the WTC, and my dream is I can do it, but I don’t want visit One WTC, but the Twin Towers, rised again from their ashes.

One of the reasons I decided to attend graduate school here and why I will stay here is because I want to see the twin towers rebuilt and I have hope that they CAN be rebuilt and that they WILL be rebuilt in my lifetime.

Although I’ve never been to New York and USA I think WTC 1 & 2 were one of the most beautiful buildings I’ve ever seen in my life (by photos and videos). Manhattan had such a recognizable skyline. They should have been rebuilt and I hope they will be.

The new tower is butt-ugly. Not only is it that, it looks like a middle finger! Bring the old towers back! They truly symbolize that we as a nation are united.

As a New Yorker myself I think it is a disgrace to America for the towers not to be rebuilt. What is there now shows the monsters who took them down that they won. I think there should at least be a second freedom tower even though that would not be what should be there and the whole site should be called “Freedom Trade Center” or something like that.

Hi, my name is Jon. Im 14 and I live in Detroit, Michigan and 5 years ago I seen the Twin Towers on a movie that had Eddie Murphy in it, and then I seen McCully Clunkin on top of the Twin Towers. I told my parents one day im gonna try to go see the Twin Towers and then they replied “Impossible” and I asked why? Then they replied “They don’t exist anymore since 9/11 hapened” (I didn’t know much about 9/11 at the time), then I said what’s that. So they told me and showed me what happened and I was shocked, and in denial about it and also cried a little. So as years passed on I heard people say by building the new wtc we’re taking back what the terrorists took from us. I didn’t believe that one bit. Rebuilding the twin towers is taking back what the terrorists took from us.

I loved these towers. I remember seeing them on TV and movies when I was a young boy and I was shocked when they collapsed and I hold this building in my heart. America needs to become great again, rebuild these legendary, beautiful, great towers.

As long as we don’t build the stronger, safer, taller Twin Towers II, Bin Laden wins. He looked at the original Towers and couldn’t stand we had them, so he destroyed them. Gov Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg respond to this by putting an inferior building in their place…

Before the events of September 11th, the Twin Towers were the most awe-inspiring buildings in North America. They were truly a masterpiece; rising high above the streets and civillians of New York City, reaching up to touch the clouds. Today, the One World Trade Center is un-inspiring, created by a man with no inspiration, no intelligence, no creativity. In my opinion, World Trade Center Phoenix would be an improvement over the so-called Freedom Tower. Bring back the grace that once flowed over the Big Apple, over New York, over the United States of America.

The twin towers where the best in the world. You expect that one tower that is barely taller with less space can ‘replace’ two towers that were twice as big if you put them together. What about those other buildings? They dont even look like towers they are there to try to satisfy you, to get you to forget about the towers. The towers that give you confidence, that give you a reason to take the long way to work so you can take a nice look at the buildings. What I’m trying to say is we need those towers, New York needs that icon, not one tall building and little buildings that just take up space. New York needs TWO buildings that are the tallest in the city or country, strongest in the world, and give tourists another reason to vist New York City.

Twin towers should be rebuilt. I actually think it is really stupid on building the freedom tower! Nobody likes it. I mean come on. It’s been on CNN that New Yorkers want the original Twin Towers! Ok governor or mayor or what ever. It is right in plain view. open your eyes!!!!!!

I have only been to New York once, and I don’t remember it very well but my mom says she took me to ground zero. I want to say I remember some of it but I can’t say for sure. I have seen dozens of documentaries and I know the progess on the new buildings continues. I think they’re neat but belong elsewhere. I am very much in favor of the TWIN TOWERS II by this architect by the name of Kenneth Gardner. I never got to see the world trade center in person until after they were destroyed. Although I don’t live in New York I have always wanted to see NYC. I have always loved architecture and would really love to go back and see all the buildings. I think it’s a shame what their doing down at ground zero. I think it will be a great disappointment.

The twin towers were wonders of the world. I have marvelled at them and researched them to the best of my ability, and it saddens me that they’re not being rebuilt. For New York to have something taken away, and replaced with something as ugly and lonesome as the freedom tower — let alone the fact that there aren’t two! — it’s saddening. I wish I could have seen them in person and for the sake of everyone I wish to one day see them standing tall in the NY skyline yet again.

I wish that we could rebuild the towers. They were a part of our nation. Even though I was like four when they fell I look at videos of people on top of the towers on YouTube. They were so beautiful. They should listen to the people who had families in those towers and not just think of their selves. They need to rebuild those towers.

I think the Twin Towers II should have been built instead of one lonely, not so attractive tower. I have never been to the original Twin Towers but saw it from afar from the Statue of Liberty back in 1992 and it just looked beautiful. I couldn’t believe it. I was a kid at the time and didn’t know my way around NYC. Anyway, it’d be great to see the Twin Towers again.

That Freedom Tower is a dishonor to all that the Twin Towers stood for. It is ugly, and looks unfriendly, like a pin forcefully stabbing itself into the sky. The Twin Towers were a symbol of the Western World, of freedom, liberty, and capitalism. There were two of them, like a natural couple, engaged in a peaceful dance that the whole world came to see. Whenever I think of America I see those Towers, and I see what they were standing for. I don’t think they are being rebuilt because so much that they had come to stand for had been destroyed when those subhumans put into action the raising of Hell itself.

Even before the great incident of 9/11 I was quite fond of the Twins, though I had never been. There is something about two twins in a skyscraper that is unique; you can have one giant building standing alone, however spectacular or well built, but to have two standing vigilant, side by side, gives one a sense of companionship and union. And these particular two have always stood out.

For myself, I’d sure like to visit the Twins in person, having never been able to before 9/11.

The freedom tower is a disgrace! I had expected that the people in charge of the reconstruction would understand and consider the importance of rebuilding them as they once were. I am a frequent traveler to NY and consider it my second home so to see something part of history being ruined like it has been by these new modern designs is a complete disappointment.

I have been to NY many times and love seeing the Twin Towers. It was and still is an American icon. The NY skyline isn’t the same without them. They were an engineering marvel and a Mecca for commerce. They were what so many people identified with as Americans. It was the Eiffel Tower of America. Do you think if this happened in France, they wouldn’t rebuilt it? You know they would, so why shouldn’t we??? Every time I see a movie with the Twin Towers in it, it tears me up. It really hurts to see them again and knowing they’re not there. Please rebuild them. It would give so many Americans the hope we all need so desperately. Give us the feeling of pride and glory again. Thank you.

It would be great to see the towers up again. It was a sad day for America to watch our towers fall and watch all those people die. It was a mean thing that those terrorists did to our country. I will remember and never forget what happened. Rebuilding the Twin Towers would be a sign of victory.

I’ve fallen in love with the towers. Even though they’re gone looking at pictures from 1997-2001 it almost looks like they were taken yesterday. But that was 16 years ago. They do not feel gone to me. I personally never got to see the towers but would love to see them in the future (Yes even if they’re rebuilt would still count in my book.) The Towers were an icon to America. If the White House was blown up I am damn sure they would rebuilt it as close as the could. So why not do that with the towers? What’s stopping you?The Freedom Tower looks completely out of place in New York. Replace it with something that looks like it fits. Like if you were doing tile you would replace the old with the same so it doesn’t look goofy.

1 and 4 world trade center are almost done. but 2 and 3 world trade center are absent. I believe that space should be used for new twin towers. When the old twin towers were planned they originally were suposed to go on that spot. But plans moved the to the far west side of the site. I think this would make it the way it was intented to be. The east side of the site where 2 and 3 world trade center are planned to go should belong to the twin towers.

It’s clear that people want to see the twin towers built again. In fact, it was clear 11 years ago. Just because the Governor has power over the city doesn’t mean he can take it upon himself to choose which towers to build due to his own preferences. The vote goes to the people of NYC along with the rest of America. This city is filled with useless and weak minded people that work for the government and it needs to change. The thought of the Freedom Tower AND Twin Towers seem like a great idea. Fix the foundation of where the towers stood and put them back, we need to show all remaining terrorists that when we fall WE GET BACK UP!!! But the government is not helping us prove that AT ALL. Our country’s security is alot more superior than it was.

Though I don’t even remember September 11th since I was very young, I just love the Twin Towers. They’re beautiful. And whenever I am reminded that they aren’t being rebuilt and that a new tower will replace it; I am furious. America deserves to have a say at what we want at The World Trade Center. I love the Twin Towers, and although I don’t have any memories of them, I still miss them. I truly hope we can have the towers back in the skyline.

The Freedom tower is absolutely nothing. The Twin Towers made New York City period! The Freedom tower will not heal New York City’s skyline. The attacks stabbed a huge whole in everyones heart which is unable to heal if the Twin Towers can’t be rebuilt. We as Americans need to come back bigger and stronger.

As a child I always admired The Twin Towers. They were the pride and joy of the United States of America but the heart and soul of my fellow New Yorkers and I. I always wanted my dad to take me to see the towers at night. I remember riding the Staten Island Ferry just to watch those beautiful towers beam. The Twin Towers played a significant role in my childhood, my heart was extremely broken on 9/11/01. I would love to see those towers that once graced our NYC skyline standing where they stood 11 1/2 years ago. This One WTC is an epic disgrace to Americans, tourists, 9/11 families and NYC residents. Please Rebuild The Twin Towers.

9-11 is one of my earliest memories. I remember it so vividly. I was lucky enough to visit the towers about a week before they came down as a child, but I never really got to get the full experience out of that one visit. The original towers were beautiful and the plans for the new WTC are, in my opinion, atrocious. Please give us back our towers. Please give the people their towers. Please give the people freedom. Please.

I was 6 when that day reared its head, but I do remember it. A child can have his life affected at a young age, I saw my parents distraught, and filled with grief. I didn’t quite understand it at the time, but I still remember that being a very sad day for me. As I became older and could understand it I was still confused in some areas. To think that these icons of America could be swept down to the ground along with many hopes, dreams, and morale. My point is, what does a strong person do? Do you get knocked off of your feet and stay down? Or do you rise from the dust, pull yourself together, and fight back with more confidence than ever? America needs to restore the morale that fell with the towers, and come back stronger than ever.

Though I wasn’t in NY on 11 Sep 01, the images, eye witness accounts and national heart ache have been with me ever since. While some may say to rebuild the towers is to invite another attack, I ask this: Why aren’t you tearing down all other skyscrapers to avoid such a catastrophe? My grandmother once told me “you can die crossing the street, so live life to the fullest every day.” Personally, I think that One World Trade Center (freedom tower) is ghastly looking. It’s like seeing a mockery of everything that occured that fateful day in September. I can’t see a more fitting way to honor those who were lost than by saying “OK, you got us, but guess what? We’re back and better than before, and we’ll keep coming back…
