The Twin Towers Alliance Petition

The statement below rings as true in 2011 as it did in 2006. The thousands of comments that have been left over the years are just the tip of an iceberg. The question for those who consider adding their names to the petition is not will new state-of-the-art Twin Towers be built, which no one knows, but should new Twin Towers be built, with which most of us have always agreed.

We, the undersigned, share the belief that nothing could be more inspiring to our people, or disheartening to our enemies, than Twin Towers, at least as tall as before in every respect, soaring above Ground Zero.

We believe that the devastation of September 11, 2001 clouded the picture long after the rubble was cleared away and that a thorough public examination of the rebuilding option is overdue and now required before proceeding on an unalterable course.

We recognize no financial or political roadblocks that cannot be overcome if rebuilding the Towers is the will of the people. And, we see no conflict between stunning Twin Towers and a noble Memorial, which belong together on this site that means so much to us all.

We submit that there is only one way to truly heal the skyline of Manhattan and the heart of America: Rebuild the Twin Towers. Doing anything less would leave a permanent scar on the face of New York and diminish a legendary city.

I’m really proud to be a American citizen and I really want a chance to see the twin towers rebuilt in new york. It will respect the American spirit and those who died that day.

The Twin Towers were historic landmarks in the greatest city in the world. New York City isn’t the same without our Two Brothers standing tall and firm. As a memorial to all those lost I strongly believe the Twin Towers should be rebuilt. It shows the world that we’re courageous and we don’t back down. When we fall, we get back up. We don’t send someone else in to take our place (Freedom Tower). We will never get back all the innocent lives lost on that horrible gloomy day but we can honor them by showing them we will not be defeated. New York City is a brave city. Let’s prove it by picking our brothers back up and having them stand tall and proud once again.

I loved the twin towers. Every time I saw them, I would say to my young son, “There are the twin towers,” like a ritual. Those buildings stood for so much; to me, they were New York. Their stark simplicity, power, grace, and unmistakable presence inspired me. I don’t like the new tower they are making. In fact, I am sorry to say I hate it, and I feel like crying every time I see a rendering of what it will look like completed. It is not even discernible among other buildings. Even, if they never rebuild the twin towers, the picture I have of NYC will always include them.

The Twin Towers were the New York skyline, they are the iconic symbols of what makes America. They were taken from us along with many innocent lives. We cannot replace people nor can we replace icons. By rebuilding the Twin Towers we honor those we have lost, as well as honor all the brave men and women defending our freedom, showing the world our resilience in overcoming tragedy with rebirth and renewal. The Twin Towers were taken from us, they would still be here as the New York skyline had 9-11 not happened, as would the thousands of loved ones we lost. It is time and has been time we bring back our Twin Towers, moving on to our future by staying true to our past.

Are you kidding me? Dubai is building the worlds largest building? Yeah…with our US Dollars for middle eastern Oil..With all due respect…we should be building the towers larger and taller than anything else…if an attack comes again it will happen whether it is a 20 story building or 200….rebuild them taLLer and and biGGer than ever before..that will give us all everything we have been missing ever since that horrific day….it will give us our New York back..our beliefs…our everything….Build them again…build them again…build them again.

God Bless all those who have perished…we’ll all be together one day again.

    Best Regards,
    Casey Thomas R.

I wasn’t born in NY, however, I moved here in November 1993. I have lived in NY and worked here in the financial industry from ’93 to ’01; therefore the iconic World Trade Center was always in my view (as it was, for so many others). How many times I had been in an out of the trade center for interviews, meetings, drinks, shopping, etc. It truly became a staple for everyone. Imagine, if you will for a moment, losing Central Park and then the city officials replacing it with some condominiums and a small pond with a few trees; New Yorkers would be outraged! New Yorkers and fellow Americans deserve to be heard (it is and continues to be a NY staple) and treated with respect and compassion. The Twin Towers should RISE AGAIN and grace the New York skyline, once again!

at least build a second tower with the freedom tower,at least we will have twin’s again.

  • signature permalink tony renna 8/10/2011

we need to have our towers back. 1 wtc does absolutely nothing for the skyline and sends a statement that we are willing to compromise for something less ……

  • signature permalink Zack Chittenden * 8/10/2011

Finish One World Trade Center. But Rebuild the Twin towers in the other space. New York isn’t the same without them.

  • signature permalink Johnathan Smart * 7/31/2011

Man I feel so angry and disappointed in seeing the Freedom Tower being built instead of the Twin Towers. I am very very angry about the Freedom Tower. Very angry and upset because New Yorkers could have done better than what they are doing. What kind of a message are trying to send? I wanted the Twin Towers rebuilt. F*** the Freedom Tower.

  • signature permalink Marlon Moncrieffe 7/19/2011

Rebuild the twin towers as they were, put a statue, a wall with the names of the dead etched on it, and a memorial garden. Not the eye sore we’re going to get.

  • signature permalink Savannah Banscak 7/12/2011

My mom supports rebuilding the Twin Towers. So do I. I want this city to be the city it was when the towers were still standing. Please do whatever you can and I would like the towers to be rebuilt. I know most of us will be dead by the time the towers are reconstructed, if that’s what the government and the state decide to do. I am only 12, but I love the way New York looked when the towers were standing and I would love for it to look like that again.

I want the Twin Towers rebuilt just like everybody else. It makes me sick to my stomach when I look at ground zero today the way it is. The Twin Towers stood where our civilization began as Americans.

  • signature permalink Peter Zion * 6/12/2011

I get the feeling that the Freedom Tower is going to be capped and not completed. The Freedom Tower cannot continue to be built on lies because most Americans are waiting for new and safer versions of the original Twin Towers created by Minuro Yamasaki. I really hope they cap the Freedom Tower sooner.

  • signature permalink John Straford * 5/28/2011

The construction workers at ground zero don’t seem to care what the Twin Towers stood for. The memorial reflecting pools that is right beside the Freedom Tower will remind everyone that we as Americans are afraid because of what the terrorists did. We live in fear. We are not a leading country anymore. The Twin Towers should be built but stronger and better.

  • signature permalink Mark Eadicicco 5/5/2011

Two of the greatest buildings in the world, captured the spirit of New York and I’m forever filled with memories of them in my skyline. However unlikely, let’s bring them back.

  • signature permalink Nelson Morales * 5/2/2011

It’s a great thing that Osama Bin Laden is dead but why are we giving him and Al-Qaeda the satisfaction of their victory at the World Trade Center with the “Freedom Tower”? We should rebuild the twin towers to show the terrorists that we can prevail from tragedy and show the world that we are stronger than ever.

  • signature permalink Barden Cone * 4/19/2011

Rebuilding the Twin Towers will mean so much to the 9/11 families. They deserve the best memorial that we can give to them. The best memorial will be to rebuild the Twin Towers designed by Minuro Yamasaki. Rebuild the Twin Towers.

  • signature permalink Thomas F. Barton 4/7/2011

My feelings now, are as resolute since 9/11. RE/BUILD THE TWIN TOWERS….better, stronger, safer. I cannot imagine a more just, more New York, more American response to the epic devastation we will forever feel, than saying to the world:

“If you knock us down, we will get back up.”

There is a light and the end of this tunnel.
It shines for all to follow.
It is a beacon from within.
A reminder of where we have been.
A glimpse of where we are going.
A journey we are all a part.
    Keep moving.

    TF Bart

TTA Note: The verse above is part of a 9/11 Memorial design and the link is to the LMDC entry. A great deal of thought, heart, and time clearly went into it. Multiplying that effort by the thousands of entries and then looking at what the “experts” chose is proof-positive that the “Memorial Jury” was not a jury of our peers.

The Twin Towers were the most iconic structures ever built. The Twin Towers had an outdoor observation deck on the South Tower and the famous Windows On The World restaurant on the 107th floor of the North Tower. The Freedom Tower will not include any of the things that the Twin Towers had which is really disgraceful. The government and politicians are corrupt, greedy, and selfish. We want the original Twin Towers rebuilt but stronger and safer. REBUILD THE TWIN TOWERS!!!

  • signature permalink Christian Murillo 3/21/2011

As a fellow New Yorker, it pains me to see just how corrupt this government is but we have to keep on going forward!! Rebuild the world trade center!! Investigate 911!!! There’s too many hidden clues that nobody realizes!

  • signature permalink Michael Culkin * 3/17/2011

We need to build the same two buildings and make them taller.

  • signature permalink Jonathan Sander * 2/24/2011

The Twin Towers must return to New York City. Without the Twin Towers New York will never be the same again! 9/11 was the worst and deadliest terrorist attack of all time. We lost alot of innocent people and alot of office space. In order to restore what was lost on September 11, 2001, we must rebuild the original Twin Towers but stronger and better! That is the only memorial that we can give to the victims and their families! Rebuild the Twin Towers! Rest in peace to Minuro Yamasaki! Minor Yamasaki designed the Twin Towers!

  • signature permalink Raven Steve * 2/21/2011

The Freedom Tower is a big insult to those who died on September 11, 2001. That is total disrespect to the victims and the families! By not rebuilding the Twin Towers, we are saying to ourselves and we are saying to the world that we are cowards! We are cowards because we are afraid of terrorism. We are letting them destroy our way of life by not rebuilding the Twin Towers!

  • signature permalink Santiago Fernandez * 2/12/2011

Rebuild the Twin Towers in honor of those who perished in the 9/11 attacks! The Twin Towers is the only right memorial for the victims and their families! 9/11 will never be forgotten but we must move forward with strength and dignity! Let us rebuild in honor of the past and hope for the future generation!

  • signature permalink Holly Chen * 2/11/2011

Rebuilding the Twin Towers would be the only way to respect and keep in memory those we lost while still being able to move forward as a nation and people with strength and dignity.

What is currently being built/planned is too worked, aesthetically confusing, uninspired… weak. I’d rather see nothing then have a permanent eye sore on our beautiful skyline and create emotional longing in our hearts. Twin Towers was a deep rooted universally recognized symbol and positive beacon of New York and of America. Replacing it would be telling the world we have given up and retreated.

  • signature permalink Jennifer Thorpe-Moscon 2/10/2011

I participated in the circus that resulted in the current plans for Ground Zero, such as the Listening to the City events in which no one listened to anyone. The officials involved have never cared what the people wanted or what was best for this city. We must rebuild the Twin Towers or else our city will always have a glaring hole in its skyline, no matter what else might be put there.

  • signature permalink Jason Hanson * 2/9/2011

The new Freedom Tower that is being proposed right now is a sign that we have been defeated! The Twin Towers is the only way to show people that we are strong and will not tolerate terrorism and violence in our nation! The Twin Towers made Lower Manhattan what it is today! The Freedom Tower does not match with the skyline at all! Plus it is smaller than the Twin Towers! The Twin Towers should be rebuilt but stronger than it was!

  • signature permalink Matthew Perry * 1/31/2011

Rebuild the Twin Towers! It is the only solution for healing the psychological wounds of 9/11! We need the Twin Towers back! Please rebuild the Twin Towers!

  • signature permalink Gonzalez Hesar * 1/30/2011

The Freedom Tower will never represent what the Twin Towers represented for 30 years of its existence! The Twin Towers were a symbol of who were as Americans! The Twin Towers were a symbol of peace and belief in humanity! We need our towers back! The Twin Towers is the only answer and it will bring healing to this country!

  • signature permalink Christopher Giannotta * 1/30/2011

I was born and raised in Bensonhurst Brooklyn New York, as a child growing up in the early to mid 90s, my father worked in World Trade Tower 1. I would go to work with him and admire my city from 1400ft high. My father sadly passed away from cancer in 2005, I miss him dearly, it would make my dreams come true to relive my greatest memory’s with him, and join him once again in spirit on the new Twin Towers. I hope and pray that in the near future I can be on the observation deck with my father once again.

  • signature permalink Paul Joseph 1/10/2011

The Freedom Tower will not heal the skyline! There is still a hole in my heart after 9/11! We want the Twin Towers rebuilt but stronger than ever! The people originally wanted to Twin Towers rebuilt! Everybody wants those icons back in the skyline the way they were but stronger! The Twin Towers 2 project will give respect and honor those that have died on September 11, 2001! That is the only memorial we can give to the victims and their families!

I was born and raised here in New York City and I am very upset at the decision of The Port Authority and LMDC along with Governor Pataki. It was totally wrong of them to not rebuild the original Twin Towers. I feel it can still be done though. If you notice on the new WTC site, the original footprints are still there. I know they will be memorial pools, but I feel in the future they can always been built on. These are the original foundations of the Twin Towers. If the decision is made to rebuild, can they rebuilt the original towers on these foundations even though they were pools?

  • signature permalink Mitchell Gil 12/29/2010

The Freedom tower is absolutely nothing. The Twin Towers made downtown Manhattan into what it is. They made impact like no other tower. If New Yorkers can destroy baseball stadiums and rebuild new ones, the same should go for World Trade Center. Give an opportunity to those who never got a chance to feel the Twin Towers experience.

I would just like to say that I am very upset the city and state of New York decided to build The Freedom Tower instead of rebuilding The Twin Towers. The Governor and Mayor lied to the American people when they said the people and families of 9/11 victims did not want the Twin Towers to be rebuilt. They lied and they are building on public property something that I do not want at all. I am a New Yorker since I was born in 1978 and I still live in this great city. I was so devastated by September 11th and I am even more devastated and upset the towers were not rebuilt.

hey guys i am madelyn. this is what i have 2 say…… i think we should rebuild the world trade center/ twin towers just the way they were. we want them 2 stand where they were once stood… tall and stronger……in the world right now we americans and citizens would like our towers standing taller and stronger. it would bring us good and happiness for all of us… if we rebuild the twin towers we will show the terrorists that we are not afraid to fight….. ! we americans would like to have our TWIN TOWERS BACK! we want what we lost 10 years ago on september 11, 2001… thank you…!

  • signature permalink Clare Casey 9/15/2010

Rebuild The Twin Towers as they were, a little taller maybe, with much improved safety designs and exits, and a defense system, and bring back our skyline, our spirit, and show we won’t be brought down.
