Yes. This is exactly what I thought everyone would do without debate.

Think of the result of not rebuilding:
Every time we look at a picture of New York, we will think “Pre 9/11″ vs “Post 9/11″. If we do not restore the skyline we in effect create a perpetual advertisement for the success of the terrorist attack. A propaganda piece that will last forever.

For us New Yorkers who navigated by the Towers the restoration will produce stronger healing.

Of course we will not forget and cannot forget but the new towers cannot and should not be identical. The upgrade would be like a well healed wound, the pain of the negative space of the towers would be gone, with the small difference remaining as a scar of the painful event we have recovered from, but never can completely erase.

It does not encourage terrorists, to the contrary. (We didn’t leave the hole in the Pentagon did we?) Instead it proves that terrorist cannot destroy America’s iconic structures because unlike the Pyramids they are part of a living society, the vacuum that destroying these buildings created naturally will result in the same building raising again. Ultimately then the terrorists will not have knocked down the Towers they only will have accelerated their upgrade.

I Love the Twin Towers! The WTC site is nothing without them. Get everyone to do the Twin Towers 2 design by ken gardner im sure Larry silverstein would go for it! But yes Were America and we will stand tall for what we believe in which is bigger safer stronger Twin Towers!

The World Trade Center meant and still means a lot to me, but i would have loved to get a chance to go shopping in there and also going to the observation deck and and also going to windows on the world and eating a nice quality meal and it looked awesome in ny skyline and ground zero and it meant world trade and peace and they were a nice simple design and they brought a lot of business in nyc

The Freedom Tower does no justice to the victims of 9/11. It only points out the pervasive weakness in America. I was only a child when 9/11 happened, but I remember taking pride in those buildings. They exuded power and warmth. The Freedom Tower leaves me cold. Rebuild the Twin Towers so that we can show our strength again.

I am a born and raised New Yorker and only recently moved to New Jersey. I’ll never forget how I marveled at the WTC when I was younger and how impressive the site was to me. I can’t imagine having future generations missing out on this experience and I honestly think we should strengthen the experience. Let’s make the towers taller and stronger! I say make the towers 2001 feet tall for the year they encountered their biggest challenge that they still overcame. It would show America’s resolve.

I am a native NYer and i was there at 911 and I will never forget the sight of thousands of NYers walking up park ave looking stunned and dazed, a real 3rd world sight we are Americans and NYers and we are tough, and gritty, we need to rebuild the towers and not cower we need to send a message loud and clear that we are not afraid but rather we are one in our resistance to tyranny and fear, we are all one city and nation unafraid and undaunted as we face an islamic tyranny not one of choice

The Twin Towers were my favorite and most beloved buildings in this city and my heart was broken on 9/11, for the towers and for those who lost their lives. I do New York city photography and had photographed the Twins Towers as much as anybody else in the world hence my feelings for them. I very strongly feel by building them exactly the way they were would let us reclaim our city and heal wounds of the 9/11. The Towers were the gateway to USA for people coming from far and wide. They annouced their arrival to the New World!

Rising majestically into the skies they defined not just a city but a whole country! Let’s bring them back.

I thoroughly support the re-building of the twin towers. They were a source of American pride and should be rebuilt. I watched them errected from my kitchen window and I watched them burn for days. The Manhattan skyline is just “sad” to look at now. Building anything less is an insult to those who died there. I’m sure all New Yorkers feel the same.

I can’t think of any better memorial to the victims and families all the emergancy workers……all affected by that day, than to drive down the west side highway and see those buildings again. you can’t bring the victims back, but in my opinion you could in some way by seeing those buildings, the best in the city, country and possibly the world. Not even the petronas towers in malaysia are as breath taking (just my opinon). I wrote at the site last year on the wall BRING THE TOWERS BACK!!!!!!!!!

I am a a New Yorker, my cousin is a Marine who has been to Iraq twice and my Uncle is a Fireman who was at 9/11 even though he is a Newark Fireman. This “Freedom Tower” is the stupidest idea I have ever seen. We need The Twin Towers put back the way they were. Nothing will show the terrorists how strong we our more then putting them back up Bigger then before. We need our two beloved Twin Towers back not this single Tower that looks like it was designed by the archaeologically retarded.

They changed the plans a couple of times already, what’s one more? 6 years later, and still not 1 above ground floor built yet. We can’t bring those lost on that day back, but we could rebuild the twin towers, bigger, stronger, maybe black like the Sears tower (both in defiance and remembrence). The Pentagon was rebuilt, why not WTC?

I agree the Twin Towers should be rebuilt as before, EXCEPT with a safe, fireproof structure, which may require a more traditional building skeleton; ie, a steel skeleton supporting the entire building weight, and masonry to provide fire protection. This may require shorter towers. That would be OK - ie, if they were “only” 80 or 90 stories, they would still soar above everything around them and appear the same as the original towers. The planned Freedom Tower is a monstrosity.
TTA Note: Our petition specifically promotes Twin Towers of at least as tall in every respect and nothing requires shorter towers.

Everyone I have spoken with is completely against this new, so called Freedom tower!The Twin Towers were a huge part of New York City and held a special meaning to all who viewed their grace, strength and symbolism. Build them stronger, taller and mightier.

They were a New York City and an American icon. Erecting any other building in their place will never be accepted, acknowledged and it is disgraceful. It’s like changing the Statue of Liberty. You simply can’t.

As I write this, it is now the sixth anniversary of that tragic day when so many innocent lives were taken. My heart will forever go out to the families and friends who lost their loved ones. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I would love to be able to look at the skyline once again and see the two towers that once stood there. It would be such a calming vision with the twilight reflected off their sides and their outlines visible from so far away.

I always thought they would be there, like parents,friends,and loved ones. Just once I wished it wouldn’t be so and that they would be there long after I’m gone.

I won’t ever look in that direction again if the towers aren’t rebuilt. There’ll be nothing there to see.

I’ve lived in NY all of my life and worked at 7 WTC for 10 years. It breaks my heart to see what they want to build to replace the towers. The Twin Towers in the NY skyline are the symbol of NY. Replacing the Towers with the buildings they are proposing makes me truly sad. I feel like we’re admitting defeat and telling the terrorists that they won on that horrific day. The best tribute to the people we lost is to rebuild the Towers and show them that we are not broken or defeated.

This seemed to me to be the obvious response to the attack. Rebuild. Maybe bigger. Maybe add a third tower. But rebuild. Show the world and each other how resilient we are. growing up in east village (alphabet city) i grew up looking at our skyline, those beautiful twin towers. from my room window i always had a clear view of the towers. which represents so much of everything positive in this great city and nation.the new plans for the world trade center do not give the site any justice, its a joke and a band-aid solution, it sucks.we should build back the twin towers better, taller and stronger. bring back the true beauty downtown manhattan was known for.
