WHAT EVERY AMERICAN NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER
The American people are being swindled. Everyone knows The World Trade Center and the Twin Towers are interchangeable terms. How can we “rebuild The World Trade Center” without them? Nothing is happening at Ground Zero that matters in the long-run — nothing that should lock us in to a colossal mistake. There is nothing to prevent us from rebuilding the Twin Towers. It’s time for some common sense. Billions of taxpayer dollars went into helping New York to get back on its feet. In return, the opinion of the American public was ignored and a site plan was developed that does not have popular backing. Most people, including most New Yorkers, think that rebuilding the Towers is the right thing to do. And most firefighters agree – as do many 9/11 family members. Gov. Pataki pandered to elitists, who thought it would be “too bad to erase the erasure” – as if our property were their sketch pad – and established ground rules that, unknown to the general public, kept the option of rebuilding the Towers off the table. A plan that includes Twin Towers and a noble memorial could be ready for twin openings on 9/11/11 – if the public acts to put the politicians in their place as our servants, not our masters. People who have their hearts in it can do anything. The Empire State Building was built in 14 months at the height of The Great Depression. A colossal amount of debris was removed from the WTC months ahead of schedule. Construction workers would love nothing better now than to put the Towers back where they belong. And the public would rejoice. The media coddled the political machine all along and are now promoting the false impression that what is being done is popular, inevitable, and moving ahead rapidly. None of that is true. The media allowed detractors to pretend that the Twin Towers were not popular, while refusing to give the opposing viewpoint equal time – or, for the most part, any time. A recent Harris poll of “America’s Favorite Architecture” placed them in the Top 20 on the list of the 150 most popular structures – #7 in the list of 33 NY landmarks. The process that gave us the current plan was a slap in the face to the American public. It was dishonest and condescending. That’s not a secret and we can back up what we say. The WTC was destroyed by an enemy at war with the very idea of democracy and we must not stand by meekly while it is replaced with a complex that is in defiance of the public’s wishes. New Yorkers and Americans have less to fear from terrorist attack than from the short-circuiting of the democratic process. The “Freedom Tower” plan calls for an observation deck and restaurant at a height roughly equivalent to the originals, so what’s the point? It’s a scam and we don’t have to meekly accept it. The Twin Towers were not generic buildings - they were world-famous icons. They stood for something. And if they are lost, so is what they stood for. If we can’t restore one of the signature symbols of our vibrant democracy, then how vibrant can it really be? People Want Their Towers Back – Six Years of the Wrong Plan For the Wrong Reasons Is Long Enough! There is a lot of background information presented on this site but everything you need to know before adding your name to the petition has been presented here. The oldest, strongest, and bravest democracy on earth needs its Towers back. It’s up to us to show the world that democracy is more than just a quaint idea in America and that the power still belongs to the people. It’s Not Too Late To Do The Right Thing – And Do The Thing Right!
