There is a pernicious, circle-the-wagons mentality in Washington, Albany, and City Hall — never answering straight questions with straight answers. If the rest of us worked that way we’d be out of business. No one would put up with it.

Why Are We Following the Followers – Where Are the Leaders?

The apparent fait accompli at the WTC is an illusion. The folks who are so sure that they will succeed in building their bogus World Trade Center have about as much legitimacy as the Great and Powerful Oz. So while The Man Behind the Curtain cranks out the special effects and most people fall for it, we continue to search for someone with influence who will recognize what is really at stake. It will only take one brave person to change this equation overnight.

The Spitzers and Bloombergs can pretend that the current plan is what the people want, but the truth is that it’s not. And truth matters. If it’s not what the public wants, as they insist that it is, then what is their authority for what they are doing? If they are so sure of themselves, why not ask the people one question: “If it were up to you, what would the World Trade Center look like?” They are afraid of the answer. And they should be.

It just took one little black dog to pull back the curtain on a very unimpressive wizard . . . The fables of life are enduring because they have a lot to teach us. The real  World Trade Center will  rise again if the people who think they should will suspend disbelief and second-guessing and fight hard for what we know is right — just because it is. Freedom isn’t free.

A FAILURE OF LEADERSHIP — 3/28/07 Press Release

Our leaders are failing us – and we are failing ourselves –
if we do not insist that they pay attention to what matters to us.

That’s how it works — how it’s supposed to work. THEREFORE, WE HAVE TAKEN THIS TO WASHINGTON. We’re certain that there are politicians and policymakers, as well as journalists and business leaders out there, who’ve never looked at the issue as it is presented here, but would be willing to question their assumptions and search for honest answers before deciding what is best.

We’ll find them and make them part of the miraculous rebirth of the Twin Towers.

New Twin Towers — The People’s Towers — will become icons of Americans’ determination to make this country work the way it was designed — as a Democracy in a Republic. That is our best hope, probably our only hope, for successfully meeting the difficult challenges ahead. As Justice Brandeis urged us to believe: “The most important political office is that of citizen.” The times require us to accept the burden and the honor, because we don’t have the luxury of leaving our nation in the hands of professional office-holders who refuse to listen and to respond — not now.

American Voices — An Email To Speaker Pelosi

Governor Spitzer’s decision to go forward with the “Freedom Tower” made his claims of being different hard to reconcile. We hope to learn before too much longer why an “Enron-style debacle” isn’t being given Enron-style justice now that he is in charge. After all the time and vast sums of taxpayer money that were wasted by his predecessor, why would he decide that what is such a disappointment to almost everyone is good enough? Of all the fights he could have picked on the public’s behalf, THIS one is THE one that will matter the most in the long run. After all the solid reasons we have given him for why rebuilding is the right thing to do, couldn’t our Governor at least have gotten back to us, publicly or privately, to tell us why he disagrees?

Tell Governor Spitzer That “One New York” Means Two Towers

An “Open Letter To Governor Spitzer” 1/21/07       2/18/07 Letter To Governor Spitzer

Appeal to Attorney General Spitzer 10/20/06

We finally heard from the AG’s office to say that they do not have jurisdiction over this matter — but they wouldn’t put it in writing. That’s called having the courage of their convictions. We had already concluded that they were going to prove worthless – but it should be much easier to convince Congress that they have jurisdiction in the matter.

And the reason is …

We’re all still waiting to hear one good reason why we should build the “Freedom Tower,” but the reasons why we should not, why it would be inappropriate, reckless, counterintuitve, wasteful, or all of the above, regularly appear in print. It seems the only thing it has going for it is momentum – and if that is the case, then it will sooner or later be stopped, because that is a means, not an end. Whatever the ultimate waste of time and money involved in setting this right, it should largely be borne by the headstrong, self-important, conniving Mr. Silverstein, but the people, as usual will be on the hook for the mischief of our officials. Nevertheless, it will be worth any price to get hold of our government again.

Until then, we are going to start keeping this index of the articles that appear telling us why the current plan is unworthy and encourage our supporters to keep us informed. Forward links to noway@twintowersalliance.com. We will Thank you.

If you agree that it is time for our representatives to start representing us on this vital issue, take a minute to sign the enclosed letter and LobbyByFax.com will send it for you.

The failure of leadership certainly extends to the media. The official disregard for the majority viewpoint could never have succeeded without their acquiescence. They underwrote a tainted process for reasons that did not advance the public’s aspirations. With a few exceptions, they have done a great disservice to the American people. If we are wrong and the public’s support is not what we say it is, then the best way to prove it would be to shine a spotlight on the matter and let the truth come out - whatever that may be. They have let us all down and should at least explain the choices they made.
